Alberto Godoy Godoy is one of Houston's most exciting and promising Latino artists. His paintings reflect the bold and exotic images of this Caribbean homeland of Cuba. Godoy's work also depict the wealth and depth of the diverse Hispanic culture exposing every aspect of the Latino experience with themes ranging from indigenous and rural life of Colonial Latin America to contemporary images. Godoy's large pieces are technically brilliant and rich in vibrant color and textures.       Background Birth: 1960, La Habana, Cuba Residence: Houston, Texas Primary Gallery Association: Winter Street Art Center, Houston, Texas   Alberto Godoy Cuban-born painter Alberto Godoy featured in the second fall exhibition, highlighting Winter Street Art Center's effort to introduce local artists who enjoy national, and international prominance in the visual arts. Godoy fled the oppression of his native Cuba in 1978, bringing with him the vivid memories of his Caribbean homeland which are reflected in his bold and exotic images. Godoy's representation of Latin primitivism is projected through his use of exaggerated volume.  His themes for the upcoming show include the series entitled "Latin-American" as well as his newly emerging series, "Los Pueblos y sus Costumbres." Godoy has sold-out shows all across the Southwestern United States and Mexico, with recent solo exhibitions at the Tacuxclan gallery in Guadalajara, ("Oils by Godoy"), and the Dowlin Gallery in Miami, ("Primitive Artist, Alberto Godoy").   Los pueblos y sus costumbres "Los pueblos y sus costumbres" features Cuban-American painter Alberto Godoy who recently moved to Houston from Miami, Florida. Born in Cuba in 1960, he fled the oppression of his native country in 1980, bringing with him the vivid memories of his Caribbean homeland which are reflected in his bold and expressionist images. Mr Godoy's particular representation of a postmodern primitivist style is projected through his use of exaggerated volume; his portraits of the people and their customs appear satirical on the surface, but they betray a deeper sense of affiliation with, and understanding of, the human features, strengths and weaknesses. His use of shapes and volumes also reflects his philosophy "of the natural perfection in the spherical system of our universe."     He has had shows in his native Cuba, in Mexico, Florida, and most recently at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Houston. In his first major solo exhibition in Houston at Winter Street Art Center, Mr Godoy will show 16 paintings from his new series "Los Pueblos y sus costumbres."
